Mercy Seniors Attend Summer University Programs

Leanne Brooks and Maschal Mohiddin, seniors at Mercy, recently completed the Discovery to Cure program sponsored by Yale University School of Medicine.  The students spent six weeks working in a laboratory with a research scientist, and recently presented their projects to researchers, teachers, family and friends.  Mercy faculty members Mrs. Rosanne Brennan and Mrs. Susan Psoter attended the presentation.

The summer program is designed to expose high quality students from state high schools, as well as international students, to Yale’s laboratories and to open their minds to future career opportunities.  The main goal of the program is to promote interest in science and medicine among high school students.

Senior Audrey Marinelli was chosen to attend the University of Connecticut School of Engineering Explore Engineering program.  During this one week residential summer program, high school juniors and seniors explored engineering careers by working with faculty and college students to learn what engineers do in the workplace and learned and demonstrated engineering concepts.  Students worked in small groups to focus on a single engineering discipline by fabricating a discipline specific device.  Upon completion of the program, students are considered to be UCONN ambassadors for the School of Engineering.
