Mercy Events Welcome Future Students
Mercy Events Welcome Future Students
Mercy High School recently held two events to welcome future students to the school. On Saturday, March 26th, approximately 130 sixth and seventh grade girls and their parents attended Discover Mercy. Prospective students attended sessions led by Mercy faculty members on topics such as Creative Writing, the Chemistry of Tie-Dye, and Sports are Fun. Parents met with school administrators, faculty, staff and current parents in an informal setting to get their questions answered about the high school experience. Parents were also invited to attend a session on Health Concerns for your Teenage Daughter and to tour the school. Both parents and daughters were treated to lunch and to performances by the Mercy Chamber Choir, Choralations Show Choir and Mercy-Xavier cheerleaders.
Many mothers attending Discover Mercy graduated from Mercy themselves, and were now seeing the school through the eyes of their daughters. Mercy alumna Patricia Nettis Deegan came to the session with her daughter Jonna-Lynn Deegan, class of ’97, and Jonna-Lynn’s daughter Kayleen, a prospective Mercy student. “What a wonderful day for Kayleen! She now understands a bit about Mercy Girls,” said Patricia Nettis Deegan. “We truly had a great time coming home to Mercy.”
Mercy also held a Welcome Picnic for the Class of 2015, students who have been accepted at Mercy and will start classes in September. Mercy Ambassadors welcomed 120 of their future classmates in an event designed to help them get to know each other and find their way around their new school. Students engaged in ice-breakers, participated in a school-wide scavenger hunt, shopped at the school store and spent time with current students discussing what it’s like to be a student at Mercy High School.
