Mercy Continues Holiday Pie-Baking Tradition

Mercy students Morgan Friel, Abigail Nagy, Alexandra Zampini and Christy Parmenter prepare pies during the annual holiday pie baking at Mercy High School

Each Thanksgiving, Mercy High School students, their family members, faculty, staff and administrators gather in the school cafeteria to make hundreds of pies.  The pies provide the “finishing touch” for Thanksgiving dinner for those in need in the greater Middletown area.

This year was no exception, as more than 70 student volunteers, their parents, grandparents, and siblings produced almost 300 pumpkin and apple pies.  Supplies for the pies were generously provided by Navin Brothers Food Services, Lyman Orchards and friends of Mercy High School.  The pies, which are prepared, baked and individually boxed and labeled that evening, are distributed to the American Red Cross, Amazing Grace Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul Place and the Shepherd Home in Middletown, and to St. Elizabeth House in Hartford.
