Two Mercy High School Seniors were recently honored by being named Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Leaders.   Mercy’s honorees were Bridget Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Scott of Portland, and Allison Pearson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Pearson of Durham.  The SCC selected 44 outstanding students from its member schools to receive this year’s Scholar Leader Award.  These students have demonstrated outstanding scholarship and leadership in their schools and in their communities.

Bridget Scott is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, participates in the Show Choir, Drama Club, Jazz Band and Mercy-Xavier musicals, is a peer minister and a member of the liturgical music and dance group.  A three-year member of the varsity tennis team, she also serves as a volunteer tutor, recruitment team member and a Peace Jam and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) member.  Bridget ranks in the top 10% of her class and has won awards in French, physics and art.  She plans to study architecture in college.

Allison Pearson serves as secretary of the National Honor Society and is a member of the Golf Team, Soccer Team and Ski Club.  She is a peer minister, four-year member of the recruitment team, and a member of the yearbook staff and Peace Jam.  She has won awards in business and technology courses, and is in the top 10% of her class.  Outside of Mercy, she volunteers with Twin Maples Nursing Home, Amazing Grace Food Pantry, and with her parish as a Eucharistic Minister and CCD instructor. She will pursue a degree in the medical field in college.

Founded in 1994, the Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) is in its 17th year with 22 member schools and nearly 23,000 students.  Recognized as the premier athletic league in the state of Connecticut, SCC member schools have captured over 300 state championships since the league’s inception.  More importantly, the SCC is recognized for its outstanding non-athletic programs and events.
