Mercy’s Tech Tigers Win Award at State Competition
Mercy High School’s Robotics Team, the Tech Tigers, recently competed in the Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Competition held in Hartford, CT on March 31 through April 2. The Tech Tigers are sponsored by JC Penney, with additional funding contributed by United Technologies Corporation.
The Tech Tigers, in only their first year of existence, were presented with the Regional Rookie Inspiration Award. This award recognizes a first year team for outstanding effort in the competition, and for fulfilling FIRST’s objectives of community outreach and recruitment of students to the field of engineering.
Mercy’s Tech Tigers were one of only three all-girl teams in the Connecticut Regional Competition. They were also featured in a television news story by WTNH Channel 8 television.
Members of the Tech Tigers are: Deirdre Arcand, Celine Coleman, Delia Ernst, Cristina Gutierrez, Natalia Gutierrez, Alicia Kennedy, Claire Kimball, Juliann Marino, Jocelyn Marston, Rebecca Ouellette, Sara Rosborough, Victoria Scott, and Kathleen VanSteenbergen.
